Luckily though it did reboot so its back up for the moment. What happens then? Why I now have an error for shutdown. Seeing that I don't have long before I cant do anything with SSH I reboot it. When I stopped samba I had an error for nmbd and smbd in my messages log. I then tried stopping processes to see if one of them could be causing it. I unmounted the drive and tried to fsck -f it, that lasted for about 10 seconds before segfaulting. One from kswapd, the other two from rsync. After a few minutes rsync segfaults and end up with three errors in my log. So I mount the second drive and start my backup script (just rsync). After an hour or two without problem I decided that I was either getting nowhere or its fixed. I left it alone for a while to see how it was doing and just left my SSH session open with tail -f /var/log/messages so I could hopefully catch it in time to reboot it. Kernel compiled fine and after a reboot it was back up. Got to work, connected with SSH and recompiled the kernel (2.4.14). Then today I was smart enough to check before I left that it was ok and it was. So I go in and disable my daily backup and unounted my second drive (has my backup and is my Samba drive), I also swap it back the Celeron since its been running solid for quite some time on that configuration. I swapped out the RAM in the box and set the CPU back to 500 and put it back up only for the same thing to happen the next day. Get home to find the same thing on the screen. Next day I try and SSH in again and I can't get in once again. I left it there planning on fixing whatever was wrong from work the next day since I know there. Rebooted the box and after a fsck it was back up and running.

There were errors on the screen which I will put below since they are pretty much identical to the same ones Im getting now.

When I got home I tried to log in at the console but couldn't even get a password prompt, just username. The next day I attempted to do some setup of my OpenBSD box to prepare it for duty but I couldn't access my Linux box through SSH, or HTTP for that matter. I moved my two drives from my Celeron to the P3 and installed OpenBSD on the Celeron.

I upgraded my gaming machine from a P3 to an Athlon 1.4 so I figured Id perform an upgrade to my Linux box and use its hardware (Celeron as an OpenBSD firewall.
